  백인 뮤지션으로는 드물게 자메이카의 루츠레게를 통해 명성을 얻은 조셉 이스라엘(Joseph Israel)은 미국 오클

라호마(Oklahoma) 출신으로 밥 말리와 버닝 스피어(Burning Spear)와 같은 뮤지션의 음악을 들으며 자랐는데 이는 그의 음악성을 형성하는데 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 뿐만아니라 그의 부모님이 그를 자메이카에 자주 방문하도록 해주어 라스타 문화(Rasta Culture)에 대한 관심도 커지게된다. 미국 아칸소(Arkansas)에서 지내며 2000년에는 그의 첫 루츠밴드 Kepha를 결성하여 활동하기 시작한다. 매니아층을 확보하게되자 CD를 자체발매하기도하고 Lions of Israel이라는 밴드를 만들어 자메이카에서 활동하기도 하는데, 지기 말리(Ziggy Marley)의 공연에 함께 참여하게 되면서 그들의 앨범작업은 급물쌀을 타게 된다. 이는 바로 지기 말리 밴드의 베이스 Chris Meredith가 그의 음악에 관심을 보이며 자메이카의 Tuff Gong 스튜디오에서의 작업을 연결시켜주었기 때문이다. Earl "Chinna" Smith, Uziah "Sticky" Thompson, 그리고 Dean Fraser와 같은 자메이카의 베스트 세션 뮤지션들과 함께 작업을 한 앨범이 바로 2005년에 발매된 Joseph Israel의 "Gone Are The Days"이다. 14, 15번 트랙이 추가되어 2007년에 Universal Music에서 재발매된 앨범이 지금 소개하는 앨범이다. 개인적으로 Darmian Marley(다미안 말리)와 비슷한 느낌이 난다랄까. 레게에 소울, 재즈, 포크, 월드풍의 음이 가미된 조셉 이스라엘의 노래.. 좋다.
